Calico Cat Good Luck

Calico cat is not the name of a cat breed instead there is a pattern of colouring found in them. Patches of fur are basically in three colours they are white, orange and black calico cats. There is a special gene known as the white spotting gene that gives calico cats their unique colour pattern.

Calicos are associated to be lucky among different cultures. For example in Japan it was believed that having a calico in the house would bring good luck to its owners, and calico protects sailors from harm if calico is present on a ship.
Since many years people love to keep cat as a pet and cats where considered to be a Nobel soul in ancient time. In Japan Maineki Neko a cat is considered to be a representer of good fortune. Calico cats are considered to be auspicious.

As Maneki-neko was considered to bring wealth to a poor temple community. According to the myth the cat brought rich businessmen to the temple, where he made big donations and thus Maneki-neko is depicted with a paw in the air, bringing the spirit of good luck to homes and businesses.


Even in parts of United States and England Calico cats are considered as Money Cats and male calico cats are considered to be even luckier than female calicos as male calicos are rare and sterile.
